É um volume de poesias traduzidas e apenas uma original, homenageando a memória de Gonçalves Dias, publicado ao final. Traz traduções de André-Marie Ampère, Auguste-Marseille Barthélemy, Adam Mickiewicz (poeta polonês, muito provavelmente traduzido de versão francesa), Auguste Barbier, Casimir Delavigne, Louise Colet, Ippolito Pindemonte, Émile Deschamps, Victor Hugo, Henri Murger, Lamartine, Espronceda, Byron, Zorilla, Théophile Gautier, Victor de Laprade, Joseph Méry. Há uma tradução feita por Gentil Homem de Almeida Braga, do poema "A filha de O-Taiti", de V. Hugo.
